Hot Points: Buyout Updates

March 2, 2011

  • With yesterday marking the deadline for teams to buyout player contracts, we now have an idea of who's available and, for the most part, know where they're headed.
  • Multiple sources are reporting that Mike Bibby joining the Heat is "a done deal." Carlos Arroyo was released by the team yesterday to make room on the roster for Bibby, who clears waivers tonight at 6 PM EST.
  • Troy Murphy, who was torn between choosing Miami and Boston, joined the Celtics at the end of the day.
  • Leon Powe has entered the fold as a possible option for the Heat after clearing waivers with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Other teams interested in Powe include the Knicks, Hornets and Grizzlies.
  • Two other recently bought out players that are available include Jared Jeffries and Corey Brewer. However, Miami has not been strongly linked to either player as they do not necessarily address positions of need for the Heat.
